Music Gives a Soul to the Universe

Hello, my lovely readers-

MUSIC GIVES A SOUL TO THE UNIVERSE

WINGS TO THE MIND

FLIGHT TO THE IMAGINATION

AND LIFE TO

EVERYTHING

-PLATO

August has been hectic for all of us, happily and sadly.

For the last ten years, August has been loading one of our Princesses up to take to college. There is no packing up a child this year, but we did pack up the whole family. For us now, it’s just the two of us. Setting up travel arrangements and a place to stay has replaced shopping for last-minute school items. This year, we went to Florida to celebrate Princess #2’s graduation from The University of Florida with a Master of Music, Music Education.

For Princess #2, this was a two-year labor of love. With teaching full-time, this was a huge accomplishment. There were many phone calls when things got rough, but we knew she could do it. One of the many things our children dread is how we always say, “You can do it!” or, “We believe in you!” simply because they know we do, but it does not change the challenges they are facing.

The hardest part of being a parent is watching your children struggle. We know they can do anything they put their minds to. So, for us, we prayed and gave our little pep talks. I am sure these got eye rolls, but we wanted our children to know we were here and believed in them always.

A few days before graduation, we drove down to Florida while the graduate, her husband, and sister went from Iowa. Her other two sisters flew down. Having a place we could all stay as a family and be at her graduation meant so much to her and us. Being together as a family, even for only 24 hours, is a blessing for us. We have a lot of family in Florida, and they came up to celebrate along with her godfather, aunt, and cousins from Illinois. We had everyone under one roof for a few hours to celebrate and be together, which made the day even more special.

To our graduate, we are so proud of you! You bring music into the world for so many children. You are making a difference every day!

Remember to take care of yourself and relax with a book.

Happy reading,

Kat
